Who is Ashlyn Blocker?

Read why Ashlyn’s rare disease is so unusual.

Ashlyn Blocker is a young girl who has a rare genetic disease called CIP which stands for congenital insensitivity to pain. In other words, Ashlyn feels no pain. She has the inability to sense extreme temperatures of hot and cold. So if a scalding hot cup of soup was placed in front of her, she’d gulp it down without thinking twice. If she touched a hot stove, she would have no idea that it was hot other than seeing blisters develop because of the burn. In the past, her parents share that she once ran around on a fractured ankle for 2 days until they noticed something was wrong. And when she was teething as a baby her parents were shocked to see her lips chewed bloody in the morning.

To a lot of people, the idea of never having any pain sounds favorable. Almost like a super power of sorts. But ask Ashlyn’s mother what she thinks, “pain is there for a reason that lets your body know something is wrong and needs to get fixed.”

There's 100% truth to what Ashlyn’s mother said. Pain is simply the messenger between your brain and your body. Pain is the effect. Treatment of the effect is never effective because we haven't dealt with the cause yet. And if you are consistently disrupting the messaging system (i.e. taking pain relievers) the truth is that you are fooling yourself into believing that your body is healthy. Because what’s going to happen is the cause for your initial health concern will continue to breakdown without you knowing. Do this long enough and serious diseases become a reality.

This is why we are not concerned about the pain. Now, that doesn't mean that we don't care about the pain, but do you think the pain is the problem or is there something causing the pain? Something is causing it, right? So that's what we are concerned with.

If you are looking to dig into the underlying cause of your pain, contact us today for a new patient exam. Call us today @ 905-916-4325!

If you're a current patient, I encourage you to stay on track of your adjustment schedule and keep up with your home exercises. Do this and you will reap the long-term benefits of staying disciplined and focused. Why? Because with good health, you allow yourself to live the life you are destined for with your loved ones and are worth the effort!
