Optimal Functioning: Part 3

Optimal Functioning: Part 3

bandage, heal, chiropracticSo far we have talked about the first two parts of optimally functioning: mechanical and biological functioning. Today, we are going to talk about the third part which is healing. In a sense, healing could fall under biological functioning; but, it’s so important that it deserves its own section.  By definition, healing is the process of becoming healthy again. What we need to understand is that our bodies are constantly being attacked by outside stress factors and these factors place constant strain on our bodies. Some examples of stress can be physical (like the force of gravity), emotional, mental, as well as chemical and even spiritual. But the bottom line is, if we don’t have a means to counter or reverse the damage caused by stress each day, then the accumulated stress over time will lead towards sickness and disease. Therefore, healing is the process where our bodies reverse the damage caused by stress.  So the question I want to ask you is: how well is your healing occurring in your body? If you are finding yourselves sick with disease and/or symptoms, then stress is winning because your body’s healing ability is not at its optimal state.

Healing can take place in different forms. You cut your finger, your cut mends back closed and heals. You break a bone; your bones heal back together and become one again. Bacteria invade your body and cause an infection. Eventually, your body will be able to recover from the infection and heal it via your immune system, even without drugs like antibiotics. (Yes, your body can heal without drugs!) Another example which may be surprising for some is this: Let’s say you have had so much stress and damage on your body over the years that it has led to a disease process (in other words, your body is constantly experiencing more stress then healing on a daily basis). This is a very serious state of poor health. However, did you know that if you were able to increase your body’s ability to heal so that it’s greater than the amount of your stress, you could reverse your disease process? I know this may open up a ton of questions, but don’t worry, soon I will have a blog about this. In fact, it will be my next one after this series about optimal functioning.

So you see, optimally functioning so that you can heal is extremely important. The more you are able to heal, the healthier you and your body will be. Like my other recent blogs, the question I again want to leave with you is this: What controls your body’s ability to heal and be healthy?
